What is Body for Life Program?

This program consists of diet and rigorous exercise. They say if you follow this program, you'll have the best body you've ever had. Their exercise is weight training for 45 minutes three times a week and cardiovascular for at least 20 minutes three times a week. They ask you to eat six small healthy meals a day for six days a week. The healthy meals consists of lean meats and fish, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats. On one day after 6 days of exercise and diet, you can eat anything you want and take the exercise off. I don't like this idea. You may eat bad foods as the rebound. Instead, I recommend healthy foods plus small portion of your favorite foods seven days a week and favorite physical activity like sports, hiking on the one day. The web site provides a practical information (meal plans, shopping lists, training tools, member recipe, success stories, workout videos, active community).

Their meal is very simple. Eat six times a day. Each meal contains a fist-sized protein (lean meat, poultry, fish, egg whites, or cottage cheese), a fist-sized healthy carbohydrates (potatoes or brown rice). Eat at least two portions of vegetables, and drink 10 glasses of water every day. They recommend nutritional supplements and one or two tablespoon of healthy oil to round out the diet. The diet consists of 40-50% protein, 40-50% carbohydrates, and very little fat, while the standard diet recommends 45-65% carbohydrates, 20-35% protein, and 10-35% fat. If you don't have kidney problem, this high protein is OK. You need some good fats because it is essential to your body. Small meals six times a day is good idea to reduce the insulin response, resulting in helping avoid binge eating from hunger.
