Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet
The diet consists of drinking liquids every two hours. You can choose from water, homemade soups, juices (fruits and vegetables), and the author's products (antioxidant berry and green drinks). The principle is rest comes from not chewing and ingesting nutrients in liquid form. There are three choices (a two-day weekend plan, a seven-day plan, or the full 21-day plan). DeLuc recommends the weekend plan weekly, the seven-day plan every season, and the 21-day plan every year. Supplements are enzyme capsules, herbs, aloe vela, lymph drainage massages, cellulite treatment, liver flushing, kidney cleanses, body wrap, detoxifying baths, and weekly coffee enemas and colonics (flushing the colon with warm filtered water). Her recommended exercise is walking, yoga, a passive aerobic exerciser, or jumping on a trampoline. After the 21 days, you need to take a protein powder supplement with vegetables, soy milk, 3-4 ounces of salmon, and 1 cup of nonfat yogurt. And then more nutritious foods can be added. You are recommended to continue to take small amount of green drinks, berry drink, and protein shakes. This part is not so bad. However, I feel the 21 days are too long. You may be pretty hungry. This plan provides around 1,000 calories and about 20 grams of protein daily. As I wrote in "Calories for weight loss", calories should not be below 1,200 a day in women or 1,500 a day in men because you need daily minimum nutrients and too low calories harm your health. Furthermore, this plan doesn't include essential protein, fat, and fibers. Shortage of protein can cause muscle wasting because your body has to get protein and it burn up its own muscle mass.
